| Description | Serrations (Serratia marcescens) are a common microbe that can be easily detected in the environment. Sometimes it can colonize the urinary tract (especially after medical interventions-the introduction of a catheter, for example) and sometimes can cause cystitis, but it can be detected in healthy people. In the sixties, the ability of serrations to cause bacteremia in hospital patients and drug addicts was established. Later, it was found that in adults, serrations most often colonize the urinary and airways, and in children, the gastrointestinal tract. An important point is the ability of the serrations to be transmitted horizontally (through the hands of medical personnel). Most often, serrations penetrate the body through permanent catheters, intubation devices, as well as preparations and solutions for intravenous infusions. Drug addicts injecting drugs intravenously often develop septic arthritis, endocarditis and osteomyelitis |
