Name | Corynebacterium diptheriae HC |
Description | Corynebacterium diphtheriae are gram-positive rod-shaped bacteria of the genus Corynebacterium, a causative agent of diphtheria. It was first described by the German microbiologist Edwin Klebs. Diphtheria is an acute infectious disease caused by toxinous corynebacteria of diphtheria (Corynebacterium diphtheriae), transmitted by airborne droplets, characterized by local fibrotic inflammation of the mucous membranes of the mouth and nasopharynx, as well as common intoxication and internal organs. Significantly less common in clinical symptomatology can be caused by toxigenic strains of Corynebacterium ulcerans. The introduction of mass immunization into the practice of health in the 1940s and 1950s led to a significant reduction in the incidence and almost complete elimination of diphtheria in the UK and many other countries. However, the recent epidemic of diphtheria in Russia and other countries indicates that the epidemic incidence may appear where the coverage of preventive vaccinations decreases. In Western Europe, diphtheria is rare, but sporadic morbidity is observed. And the majority of cases of infection is associated with staying in endemic areas: in Hindustan, Southeast Asia, South America and in some countries formed from the republics of the USSR |
