Name | Cyclospora |
Description | Cyclosporiosis is an intestinal protozoosis, characterized by a cyclic course (self-limited) with the development of acute hyperosmolar diarrhea. The causative agent — Cyclospora cayetanensis, belongs to the class Sporozoea. The reservoir of pathogens is various kinds of animals. Infection of a person occurs by ingestion of oocysts — protozoa when using raw water from open water bodies or raw berries and fruits. The disease is ubiquitous, since the description (1992), cases have been reported in South and North America, the Indian subcontinent, Nepal and other countries. Pathogenesis has not been studied enough. The disease develops sharply with the appearance of profuse diarrhea and spasmodic pain in the abdomen. In most cases, after a few days, recovery occurs, but there is often a recurring course of the disease for 1-1.5 months |
